How is it a try hard gesture? What makes the execution of a simple hi-five seem forced?

You haven't seen hundreds of high fives where the person initiating it has almost no cause to go for a high five? It's basically become devalued.

Not really. Maybe I try to see things in a positive light though. I just view it as a form of acknowledgement/joking around/celebration, etc.

Only time I'd high five is at work but now I make all my coworkers and colleagues adjust to me.
