Video: Spruce High School fight divides Dallas ISD trustees, Superintendent Mike Miles and community members | Education Blog
A Dallas ISD student sits in a jail charged with assaulting a teacher in a case that has community members, trustees and administrators taking sides and pointing fingers.
The December 2012 fight at Spruce High School has people debating whether the 18-year-old student was mistreated, whether the teacher was out of line and whether administrators reacted appropriately.
Meanwhile, Delvron Turners mother is mystified over why others are defending him. They are defending a child that I know, nine times out of 10, Delvron probably had total involvement on jumping that guy, said Charlene Turner. My son is no angel. Im not going to tell you he walks with the Lord. He tries to fight me.
Dallas ISD police charged Turner, 18, with felony of assault of a public servant, which a grand jury reduced to a Class A misdemeanor. He also faces theft charges out of Mesquite. Turner declined a jailhouse interview request.
The 25-year-old teacher, Bryan Porzio, who suffered a head gash and minor concussion, has not returned to his job and couldnt be reached for comment. An investigation by DISDs Office of Professional Responsibility found he violated numerous district policies and exacerbated a preventable altercation, according to a report obtained this week by The Dallas Morning News.
Porzio was leading his class through an engineering lesson when he spotted Turner and two other students walking toward the building from the woods outside. He twice tried to intercept them. Porzio told investigators that he had monitored his part of the school all year to enforce a Spruce policy that prohibits students who leave from re-entering.
Two of the students ran up some stairs, but Turner walked toward Porzio, who instructed him to leave the campus.
A school security video obtained by The News shows Porzio and Turner walking down a hallway toward the main entrance. During the walk, Porzio touches Turner on the back several times, points toward the front door and exchanges words with him.
The camera didnt record audio. But Turner later told investigators that Porzio taunted him, saying that he would not amount to anything and that he would end up dead or in jail. Turner also said he asked Porzio to quit touching him.
Near the front door, Turner grabs Porzio by the neck with both hands and pushes him across the hallway until his head slams into a wall. The video shows Turner leaving the building with Porzio following him to the door.

He must be a real POS.
But the kid is going to have to accept the consequences of his action as well.
