If I were an NBA ref, I would not screw around and lose my job. That's a legitimately cake job. You are at work for probably around 4 hours a day, going to the arena, getting your uniform on, warming up, reading up on notes, reffing the game, then that's it. Plus it's only for part of the year. You have the whole summer off. You have to stay in shape to go up and down the court so you do have to spend time working out. But other than that, it's gotta be less than 40 hours a week.
I would rather be incognito too. I don't want to walk into the 7-Eleven and have a bum-azz bro come up to me from out of nowhere and say, "Hey, you screwed that call on the so-and-so game." In the arena, you have to maintain your professional composure from fan verbal abuse. Off the court, I would aikido his azz, tell him to watch the replay, karate chop him out of consciousness, then drop his body in a river, it would get messy. Need to stay on the down-low.
