My major issues with the Prison Industrial complex starts with policing and unjust punishments disproportionately sentencing blacks and that's where most of my anger goes.
I've mentioned it before, but I'm not a huge fan of the privatization of public services. So naturally this includes prisons being used as a profit mechanism for private corps.
But Prison's aren't cheap, crime should not go unpunished, and prison should not be a pleasant experience. I think prisoner's should work and I prefer for them to work. Ideally for government projects. If anything, at the least, to offset the expensive costs of housing prisoners.
From a social standpoint able bodied workers should work.
Solving the issues with sentencing and over aggressive policing should help to curtail internal prison issues that are a result of overcrowding. Solving overcrowding should also lessen the need for private prisons. This should undermine the prison industrial complex.
