I do not buy it one bit. Some minorities may think that, but I would argue it is seriously misguided.
For one, the issues that Sanders is pressing hard are the exact same issues that disproportionately impact minorities. To have a candidate already in the race, bringing light to these issues, and saying you won't support him because he "can't win?"If you think he can't win it is because YOU WON'T SUPPORT HIM!
More broadly, going well beyond Sanders, I do not respect lesser evilism as a political strategy. So for someone to argue that Hillary would be taken more seriously in an election and stands a better chance of beating a Republican (an argument for which the evidence is very dubious given polling showing Sanders performing better vs. Republicans) would mostly be irrelevant to me. What is our goal, is it freedom or simply to get a lash or two fewer? All of this voting should be a means to an end. I grow tired of people's posturing and mental gymnastics to try to justify staying firmly within the confines of the (establishment) Democratic tent. I do not fear Republicans or the right and if the working-class and oppressed groups generally got their shyt together, we wouldn't as a whole either. Like Prodigy said, "A nikka worst enemy is fear." Freedom requires some risk-taking and if we can't even pull a lever a certain way out of fear of some right-wing cowards winning an election then we don't really want it.
Unless it's a choice between outright fascism and bourgeois democracy, lesser evilism is. People keep falling for the okie doke. "This is a pivotal election, we can't let the Republicans win! VOTE DEMOCRAT, it's your only hope!
" My nikka, Bush had two terms. We lived through it. Trump could be worse than Bush
but all that means is we (including me and you all in your personal lives
) need to accelerate getting our shyt together.
Get shyt on under a Republican, get shyt on under a Democrat. I'll take my chances supporting an independent working-class alternative, thank you very much. (I will vote for Sanders if he is the nominee, otherwise I will be voting third-party)
nikka. If Bernie ain't the nominee I ain't voting PERIOD.
Ain't no difference between corporatist democrats and corporatist republicans. Voting for Hillary in the general would be a waste of my time.
If you think he can't win it is because YOU WON'T SUPPORT HIM!
