The Mrs and I watched this last night and we both thought it was a 12-pack of ass. Whilst it was beautifully shot with some great set design, the fundamental elements of telling a story was missing from this film.
It doesn’t do any work to establish the narrative of the story other than showing you a series of events that leads to Tyriq’s character ending up at the camp with Marlon’s character.
The film doesn’t explain anything but tries to dress up its lack of a plot with some very on the nose symbolism and allegorical dialogue between the characters. The finale of the film just falls flat because nothing was built up towards it and the reveal means absolutely nothing because, as I said, the film did nothing to establish a narrative.
This is legitimately one of the worst films I’ve seen for a while because it could have easily been so much better with just even the smallest amount of effort from the writers. I really want to see the story boarding that went into this film because I don’t understand how this was made without a real through-line.
