The year 3030

DJ Khaled’s “Shinin” featuring Beyonce and Jay Z seems to include another subliminal aimed at Drake. But what would an outward battle between Hov and Drizzy actually look like, considering the two MCs each come from eras with differing tolerance for ghostwriting? Tyrese let the cat out of the bag during his interview with The Breakfast Club this week. He’s planning to release the ghostwriters and reference tracks to all ghostwritten rhymes included on his next album under his rap alias, Black Ty. But how is lyrical greatness defined when crews are enlisted to craft classics? Stones Throw Records MC Homeboy Sandman, as well as Rude Jude from the All Out Show on Shade45 share their perspective on rap’s dirtiest secret.

'if ive got a team of ghostwriters i can battle everybody, its ten heads vs one'

lord help us if thats what it becomes

i do hate how this movement into hip pop is proceeding pretty much untouched. Im under no allusions that ghostwriting is a thing in any form of music, but once we move completely away from keeping it as organic as possible and start listening to artists with teams of writers, stylists and all that other stuff then its over

oh and the way they threw in 'heres meek falling down some stairs'' LMAO :russ:

having a ghostwriter is cool.

Having help to create inspiration is cool too.

the problem happens when nikkas start feeling themselves and want their names next to those who write all of their stuff.

HipHopDX is killing hip hop with their inane videos.

Authenticity is HUGE in hip hop and for great reason -it's the only major genre where vocals are rapped. One of the reasons we can accept rapping in the first place (as opposed to singing) is because it implies it's conversation/unfiltered thoughts coming straight from the person rapping. And there's something incredible about that. I don't care if Drake has his shyt written - I expect it. shyt, the fact that hip hop caught up to Drake possibly having writers so late has me like :merchant: Dude was a pop rapper from day uno. Why in the hell would you assume he wrote everything?

Again, if Nas/Wu/Mobb had ghostwriters on their classics, my opinion on this entire genre would collapse. But I don't care if x pop rapper (and probably wack rapper) had help writing weak ass bars.

Rap is a poetic sport. Great poets write their own poems. End of story.
