Word; I always chop it up with the youth in my fam and their circles about music. Yes they do listen to some mainstream acts; but its cool how most of them really rock with niche artists none of us know. Its surprising how much they fukk with oldschool shyt 2. I showed them bone thugs and their mind was blown

I think the main problem from these takes is that it comes from people who are 30+ and grew up in a whole different landscape.


The way music is consumed and the culture is not from what we were from AT ALL.


so there is this false narrative being portrayed; when really its just aged out; out of touch people who don't have their finger on the pulse of the youth.

Problem with this argument is that hip hop remains the most popular genre largely thanks to young white people. There are a lot of white people in this country. Enough for a shyt ton to listen to country and a shyt ton to listen to rap. And there's some intersection there too.

Nokia was the only hip hop hit of the entire year that had staying power on charts, and it was only sorta hip hop

^and even Nokia’s staying power and impact were overstated. People WANTED that song to be more than what it actually turned out to be. If that weren’t the case, people would’ve heard it as much as God’s Plan, Find Your Love, or Started From The Bottom.
