:ohlawd: yesss lawd...POTHOLES IN MY LAWN one of the most beautiful metaphorical stories about theft

"its a shame when u deny the claim..that you stole my words of fame!!!" :lawd:

When i first heard POTHOLES .....i was like gottdamn ...listen to this calm azz flow and unique delivery.....

and those quirky dope samples you had to appreciate cause finally somebody was using something other than JAMES BROWN breaks for production

MAN FUKK DAT WRITER......he don't have a clue

Back the and still to this day,...
That song was so next level and that was the debut single and video.
Plus it was and still is hard as hell, too.

Just the fact dela bsides on vinyl.
pretty much created the bside in what would later be.
the same bsides used to make mixtape track listing is a disservice.
Plus shows this clown don't knwk a cot damn thing to even be a critic.

Man, as a matter of fact,....
Back to the classics.

see the thing about "THREE FEET HIGH AND RISING" is that it's an acquired taste..

i cant front alot of my friends who were use to the hardcore b-boy sounds of LL COOL J, RUN DMC and G RAP were not that excited about DE LA SOUL....

but they still RESPECTED IT....

i never forget my best friend at the time, wasn't feeling it......but i told him to take a week to listen to it..and im sure you will find something u like..

and just like magic...he come running to me up the block with cassette blasting out of his portable radio playing

"PARAGRAPH PRESIDENT" he was feeling them hard drums and that offbeat flow they had..

and the concept was dope :ohlawd:

but that's what sepereated those whom just HEAR a hip hop album and those who actually LISTEN

this album was like many great albums of that era....where it might take u time to grasp the concept

like "CRITICAL BEATDOWN" by ULTRAMAGNETIC MCs.....at first the whole month i was like ehhh :patrice:

but then after a few sitdown listens i was like FUKK THIS SHYT IS AMAZING!!!! :damn:

same thing with IT TAKES A NATION OF MILLIONS , i remember when cats was sleeping on it.....

they didn't like the first singles DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE and BRING THE NOISE.....it was awkard different

but now EVERYBODY IS LIKE IT'S A CLASSIC :russ:

good hip hop is like a fine wine..u don't guzzle it..u sip it

that writer is just use to fast food music...

Say no go >>>>>

I remember trying to replicate the scratches on this record with the original hall and oates

maceo was one of the hardest deejays out there at that time :ohlawd:

him, prince paul, terminator x and dj scratch were like gods to me!!!

he changed the game when he referred to himself as a P.A not a deejay..PA MACE is what he called himself :russ:

dude was sooo dope...

there is this song i been searching for where he first drop the PA MACE alias and starts rapping himself over the MUPPETS BEAT

YES THE FUKKING MUPPETS THEME ....WBLS IN NYC was the first and only place i heard this track played.....

and me and my folks LOST OUR FUKKING MIND...I mean the bboys...the dboys and street cats were like :ohhh:

I had recorded it that night it debuted, cause i use to tape the MAGIC/MARLEY MARL show....

shyt was amazing...the whole show ..if it was for sale now..i would pay top dollar for it...

god the golden age was great :mjcry:

I had this shyt on cassette and only played it twice and one was to copy it.

I never played it again for fear the tape would pop that's how good it was

mane i played this shyt so much...that Tommy Boy should have gave me a royalties check for the way i promoted that lp as a fan

:russ:

and that's another reason why record labels ain't shyt

Tommy Boy didn't know wtf to do with De La...they didn't really get behind pushing them till MTV jumped on the bandwagon when ME MYSELF AND I came out with the george clinton sample that alot of stations put into rotation...

But they didn't work the lp well within the urban community....

PLUGTUNING the single only came about cause DJ RED ALERT a native tongue affiliate took a chance with the record..played it every damn chance he got....when it was just a demo.....but that's what deejays did back then real deejays were not slaves to radio stations or record labels..they took chances

BET RAP CITY was the first place to play POTHOLES IN MY LAWN video...a grainy loooking low budget 4 minute clip that just showcased the group in thier hometown in long island.....

a video that was obviously not up to standards for the MTV tastemaking staff

but DE LA SOUL word is bond spread thru the streets with the help of tommy boy by cats like myself who loved hearing artists take it to the next level......

Just re listening to this album man the memories. Album is straight crack.

This guy doesn't have a clue what good hip hop music is supposed to sound like
Second part is generally true for anyone born in 92. You'll have grown up on watered down shyt and have no idea how raw hip hop is supposed to sound.

Dude don't even know they are quality wise rap'a beat all time group discog wise.
They either made a classic or a four plus quality release every record.
Not to mention culturally always provided the litmus test for that era as well.

This writer needs to be smacked like back in the day for making bad rap reviews.

Also, if dela never sold.
The elongated singer style eight bar rhyming style they used.
Which is used on hitmaking in this new alternative rnb based realm is from dela as well.

It is another component of the industry using the contemporaries they tried to usher out.
As the components they would try to next assimilate from commercial sellout rap.
