Hispanic voters were supposed to be the DNC party’s future. It’s not working out that way.

Can someone explain to me what the point of this thread is?

If I had only read the comments, I would think that Hispanics are voting 90% Republican. But the article in the OP said that only 27-29% of Hispanics are voting Republican. And that number would be even lower if there wasn't such poor turnout among young Latinos. I swear that @Robbie3000 was damn near the only commenter who noticed that.

Hell, what percentage of Black men voted for Trump, like 12% or 15% or something? 29% is closer to 15% than to 50%.

Even when a Latino Republican is running against a White Democrat, Latinos prefer the Democrat. In Texas right now, polls show Latinos favoring O'Rouke 62% to 35%. And some of ya'all actually wanna claim that Texas Latinos are majority conservative?

The huge majority of Hispanics are voting Democratic. And that turned into a Hispanic-bashing thread because...?
1. they're a growing demographic so the percentage doesn't reflect the real numbers shifting the balance away from demographics
2. Theres absolutely no trend reflecting that hispanics are moving towards democrats
3. hispanics are more conservative on any issue polled compared to black voters

Also, people tried to claim that the Florida Latino vote is conservative. But that's not true outside of Cubans, and even Cubans are damn near split.

FT_16.11.15_CubanVoters.png

So only 54% of Cubans in Florida voted for Trump, and only 26% of non-Cuban Latinos in Florida voted for Trump. That means for all Latinos, they were 35% for Trump and 62% for Clinton. That's damn near 2-to-1. There might be some conservative pockets, like "rich Columbians" or whatever. But Latinos overall are a pretty strong Democratic voting base. They just don't turn out in very high numbers.
this isn't helping you.

No one is saying hispanics are 100% republican.

The point is that the numbers are WAY higher than black voters and their raw numbers are increasing as well.

26% of latinos > 26% of black voters

Even at the highest, you can't break 10% republican support in black voters +/-2%

Look at the RAW NUMBERS.

Also people saying that Cubans are the only Latino group that vote republican are not looking at the numbers.

Latinos have consistently voted republican at 35-29% since the Nixon administration.

All of the 35 -29% can NOT mathematical be all Cubans. That's millions of upon millions of people. The Cuban population is not large enough to make up 30% of the entire Latino American community.

It's not possible.

They are 0.58% of the US population. Really People. Think

I got love for my brown brothers and sisters...I'm just down to see what the energy is when it really matters and right now, democrats are COMPLETELY dropping the ball on immigration and catering to their ACTUAL BASE.

I have no idea why Dems have doubled down on immigration like this. It's really sad because it's like the chick (Latino voters) that only fukks with Dude A (Dems) because Dude B (Repubs) are a$$holes that don't want her but that's who she's really pining over. Oh well.

I've gone out of my way not to confuse bigotry and racism with legitimate criticism of policy.

Immigration is good.

Illegal immigration is bad.

Illegal immigration is DOUBLY bad for black americans.

I dont know why people have to parse my words and make me out to be some intolerant monster or a Trump supporter.

I still haven't decided whether this policy is for votes or money. Let's not act like a lot of big business contributors to both parties, especially out West, don't rely on a steady supply of illegal labor to keep wages cheap.

You see more non-white/younger Cubans that lean Dem , bolded above Fl Dems need to motivate younger voters ,

Nah they just look down on newcomers. They even have a word for them, “paisa”, which refers to those who were born in Mexico and just got here. The vast majority of the ones then have a parent or grandparent that came here illegally.

No different than the "Mayflower/WASPs" that used to look down on the ethnic immigrants that came to America in the late 1800s/early 1900s. Hilarious when both sides were crackers were from Europe :stopitslime:

Maybe low Latino turn out or enthusiasm could mean they are just content with how things are?

The fact that people can't see the parallel is disturbing.

Within a few years, these societies coalesced around the anti-Catholic, anti-immigrant American Party, whose members were called the “Know-Nothings” because they claimed to “know nothing” when questioned about their politics. Party members vowed to elect only native-born citizens—but only if they weren’t Roman Catholic. “Know-Nothings believed that Protestantism defined American society. From this flowed their fundamental belief that Catholicism was incompatible with basic American values,” writes Jay P. Dolan in “The Irish Americans: A History.

than 100 congressmen and mayors of cities including Boston, Philadelphia and Chicago in the mid-1850s. They found their greatest success in Massachusetts where in 1854 the American Party captured all state offices, the entire State Senate and all but a handful of seats in the House chamber. According to Dolan, once in power in Massachusetts the Know-Nothings mandated the reading of the King James Bible in public schools, disbanded Irish militia units while confiscating their weapons and deported nearly 300 poor Irish back to Liverpool because they were a drain on the public treasury. They also barred naturalized citizens from voting unless they had spent 21 years in the United States.

This is not a new issue.

Like the Irish Americans they will assimilate into the fold of white America and its ideology and politics. If anything they are a bit more accepted.

History of the Catholic Vote

Look at the Catholic Vote aka Irish vote,
It's not the bloc it once was since the Kennedy administration.

It's split but people just cling to this idea that Hispanics are a strong Dem bloc that is as loyal to the dems as the black vote.

Blacks have always voted in a liberal lean since reconstruction.

Hispanics have only been a recognized ethnic group since the 70s and we don't have the stats for them pior to that. But republicans can always count on at least 20% of their votes every election.

Dems should definitely target Latinos but not in the manner they are trying to do. They need to stop with the identity politics. If they want Latinos they need to treat them in The same manner they treat West Virginia and Joe Manchin.

Tailor made candidates who are on paper dem but have conservative stances.
