Wasn't that contract a rookie extension or something?

With Davis eligible to become a free agent next summer, New Orleans locked him up with a five-year, $145 million extension that starts in the 2016-2017 season.

The $145 million is the largest contract number in NBA history, and Davis' $29 million yearly average would be the highest in the NBA right now.

Davis' max starts in 2016-2017 and is based on the projected 2016-2017 salary cap of $89 million. Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski notes that Davis qualifies for a max contract exception in which he can get 30% of the salary cap (usually reserved for players with seven to nine years of service) instead of the usual 25% if he starts in next year's All-Star Game or makes an All-NBA team, which is highly likely. Thus, despite being in only his fifth year when the extension starts, Davis will be paid more than most of his peers.

Anthony Davis just signed the biggest contract in NBA history, and it's a sign of things to come

Does it matter what tier AD is? Because he could definitely be All NBA but not first team, if the NBA is still with the 2 forwards per team second team looks realistic.
Nah if u are two time all nba/mvp/all star regardless of tier you are considered top 15 of the entire league and fallunder the d.rose rulw

I've never really payed attention to contract particulars like that, but is this normal for rookies? :dahell:

Thats crazy having a $23M stipulation based fan voting

In the new rookie pay scale. The "max" contract is higher for players do make all-NBA or the all-star game.

This is how they lower the "max" for players like enes kanter type of people in the world

I think it's known as the "Derrick Rose clause". If he makes an all-NBA team or a All star game, his percentage of the max contract goes up 30 percent over the level allowed.
