Rock from the Summer of 99 until Wrestlemania X-7 was the height of his powers as a sports entertainer.

Rock after coming back from the Scorpion King after SummerSlam 01 was kind of mid, even though the matches were awesome. It just wasn't the same, and deep down we all knew that he wasn't long for WWF.

Hollywood Rock was great until he realized that he couldn't be hated by the fans and leaned into the goofiness of the character.

I agree with this. He was never the same after WM17 when he cut his hair and stopped rocking the Versace shirts. Hollywood Rock brought back that swag.

The problem is that the invasion angle swallowed up everything on the show every week so everyone had to be incorporated into it somehow even if it didn’t really benefit them. Then once it ended they had to reconfigure everything they were doing and by then his acting career was preparing to really take off. He’d left maybe 2 weeks after wrestlemania 18. Wasn’t even on the card at backlash.
