The Accord is more bang for the $$$$$$.

Personally, I'm not getting into an Audi coupe unless it's a RS5. Why? One reason is that both the A5 and S5 are underpowered for the $$$$.
The MAIN REASON is that depreciation on both the A5 and the S5 (and any Audi model pretty much) are :sadbron:

If you want proof just take one look at Audi's Lease deals. They don't come anywhere near BMW, Mercedes and Lexus as far as value goes because the residual value on the cars are extremely low and the depreciation is EXTREMELY high. I can get into a E63 AMG for the same price as a Audi S7 (not RS7...a S7). That's just crazy.

If you're stuck on getting an A5 make sure it's used and it's more than 3 years old or it's a lease. You don't want to be stuck upside down in a coupe.

I think I did a bad job of explaining since I forgot to mention that money is not an object in the choice regarding maintenance or anything else involving the car. Which car would you and anybody else cop in this situation?
Is this a hypothetical situation, or is your boy really trying to buy one of the two cars? If it's real, I'd laugh in his face. Unless you're wealthy (not rich, wealthy), money is always an object. My father, who is a 66 year old surgeon and married to a 64 year old surgeon (do the math) drives a 2013 Ford Focus ST. He bought it used. And why? Because even if you're a millionaire doctor who's kids are grown and you have no debt money is always an object.

Besides, who cross-shops a FWD Japanese coupe with an AWD German GT? They will drive so dynamically differently that it makes no sense to compare the two.

Hypothectical. I don't subscribe to the beyond ridiculous IMO rich/wealthy stuff. Wish Rock would've never said it. If your a millionaire and can't afford a 40k car and maintenance sorry but something is wrong somewhere. Now that is different from you don't want it but can't afford it because money is an object your living wrong. It was just a discussion that came up when he said he would take the accord over the audi. I said that's cause of money and if it was no object he would take the audi.

Not necessarily. For some people, reliability is key. I drove an AMG Mercedes for a couple years, shyt was ALWAYS broken. I mean literally, from day one, that shyt never worked right, ever. Finally got fed up and "downgraded" to a Nissan Altima. The Nissan was far and away the better car. Was it as flashy? Nah. Was it as fast? Nah. But goddamn having peace of mind knowing that my shyt wasn't going to overheat, or leak oil all over my garage, or that my a/c would work when I needed it to, or that the transmission wasn't going to give out, etc... it was priceless.

I hear you about reliability but I don't we can honestly say cop luxury car and problems out the ass and cop a regular car no problems can we? Maybe people drive the luxury cars harder or something idk. Now if its going to be like your case of course you want the car with less problems but maybe you just had bad luck with your car. I don't really care what car people get but I do think most people will get a prestige brand if they can comfortably over a regular car brand esp when you are younger.
