I've got a 2005 Civic with 55k miles on it and my mechanic told me I'll need to pay about $600 to get it serviced once I hit 60k miles.

He said Honda recommends getting this service once you hit the 60k mark, but he also said the main thing they would be replacing is the timing belt. I'm a little hesitant to pay that much for what sounds like a small amount of labor.

I've looked around on other sites to find more about this suggestion and a few people have called it a ripoff. I'm going to take a look through the manual again to see what it says about this maintenance but I wanted to get some opinions from here too.

I bought my civic with 55k and I recently changed my timing belt myself at 98k. I didnt HAVE to but since I was changing the head gasket, I did the timing belt and waterpump since I had everything apart. When I looked at the old belt it still looked brand new, no cracks or anything. So its not nessesary.

I have a 2006 Civic and the most that I had to pay for maintenance was around $150. Throw your mechanic in the bushes ASAP!!

that mechanic tryna play you for a sucka breh.

for a Civic that age and with them non-existent miles, you should be fine for awhile.
Appreciate the info, brehs. I'm glad I asked before I spent that money. I change the oil regularly and I always check under the hood for leaks/problems. So far everything has been running smoothly.
Post this on a Honda Civic forum and see what they say.
This topic was already done on a few Civic forums and most of them agreed that paying the whole $600 in this situation isn't worth it, especially if everything is running well.

One lady said she does whatever her mechanic suggest though. She pays about $1,500 per year on simple maintenance :whoo:
