Do a direct comparision of Blacks in NYC vs Blacks in ATL I gaurentee they are doing better in ATL, being that blacks for the most part cant even afford to live in NYC. When I went out there I learned LA never had a big population of black people from the jump. The highest it ever was like 7% in the 1970's. Now it's like maybe 6.5% something in that ball park.

L.A.'s peak black population was 15% and this was in the mid 90's I believe. It dropped down to 11% in 2005 and today, the black population is only 8%. I grew up in the Valley where you'll see more Armenians than blacks.

L.A. and California in general was never a place for blacks to begin with. We never had a strong political base, representation, and history in California like blacks do in the southern states. Hispanics have a strong political base in California therefore the state will mostly cater to their issues and make the government work in their favor.

one of my neighbors is British, one is Chinese, 2 others are black, further down the street there are white people but my neighborhood is kind of surprising. My cousins from Philly came during Christmas and were kind of shocked at how different reality is in Alabama as opposed to stereotypes. Not saying people should be knocking down doors to live here but it's not much different from any other place I've been sans NYC or LA or San Fran, Maryland or Atl.

A lot of that has to do with congressional districts gerrymandered to give Republicans an advantage. The impact of those voting blocks can be diluted if they're split up amongst a bunch of different congressional districts.

Red states are definitely stepping up their voter suppression efforts though, mostly through making it harder to actually vote (voter ID laws, making it harder to get registered to vote, ending early voting provisions, etc.). And they've stepped up their efforts since Shelby County v. Holder
