its mostly due to the rednecks in the small towns in the state and the republican party as a whole not wanting to compromise like they use to? The Governor Pat McCory was a moderate republican when he was the mayor of charlotte, however when he was elected Governor he went full retard to the right. Charlotte is in its own bubble, its really a moderate city and I think Raleigh and other bigger cities in the state such as Asheville have the same mindset
