Black artists who make great soul music will not sell...

That is all

Put it in white face, and it will do numbers, because white people are buying it, not blacks..

Support artists that make good music, and the landscape will change overnight

This is the god damn truth, we bytching about cacs making soul but how many you nikkas cop the albums of bruthas putting out that soul? Better yet, how many you nikkas even cop albums PERIOD?

Cacs cop albums, so why we surprised timberlake doing numbers?

nikkas too cheap to drop $10 on an album so we got usher c00ning it up making trash euro dance music trying to appeal to the only people who still buy albums, cacs

>>>>>>>>>>>> JT's album
Pretty Wings/bad habits >>>>>>>> Blurred Lines

Everytime White people doing something in Black Artforms it gets completely blown out of proprotion. Both Justin and Robin needed Black Producers, Writers and Rappers for any of the songs they had to blow. I don't want to take nothing away from them as artist cause I like them both but it's Black People behind their success. Same with Eminem and his Dre relationship. As for Black Artist "NOT" doing soulful music. Well that has more to do with the industry than the artist themselves.

Traditional RnB is clearly falling off just like Hip Hop has. It's not selling like it use too which has forced some of the most popular RnB artist to do club music. I don't want to give them a pass. Usher has damn near lost himself. That doesn't mean there aren't blacks doing soul music, they just don't get the promotion. Throw in the fact RnB Groups are an endangered species. Overall Rosenberg is acting like a herb. Whites aren't more soulful than Blacks right now based on 2 Blueeye soul singers have a few hit singles. Also the "Mackelmore" song isn't "Soulful" that's the last thing I think off when I heard "Can't hold us". The dude is straight jacking John Legends swags it's pathetic.

None of those artists have authentic soul. They have the platform to become more popular because of their skin, NOT because they're better. Brian McKnight, Maxwell, Monica, Brandy etc. all came out with new albums and they can sing every white artist mentioned under the bus and back. We're just going to pretend they don't exist? The best male singer out right now is Miguel. Again, these white singers are mediocre at best but no one hypes them more up than black people (which is the worst part). That's white folks job!

The willingness to throw black artists under the bus (Usher being the most popular one) in favor of mediocrity is alarming. Complaining about "Selling out" by making pop music? So white pop artists can change their sound and do R&B music and its not 'selling out'?:whoo:

Most of these so called 'soulful' white artists have black writers, producers, back up singers AND a band behind them to make this so called 'soulful' music. :smugfavre: How long are people going to be so easily bamboozled and impressed? If Trey Songz (another artist who is a superior singer) released Suit & Tie, which is utter garbage, with lyrics like "So thick, now I know why they call it a fattie" everyone would he be clowning him. But Justin Timberlake does it and black folk is all :ooh: JT IS BRINGING R&B BACK :damn::noah:

Where were all of the people rallying for the rhythm and blues genre to return when Beyonce's 4 album, which greatly underperformed from her last album, was released? 1+1, Best Thing I Never Had, Love on Top, Party, Dance For You etc. all flopped.

Janelle Monae has more soul than any other black or white artist I've heard on the radio in a long time.

She happens to be black, by the way.

I can't stand Rick Ross, but his music definitely has soul. Wale, Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole...all have soulful beats/samples on their songs.

There are PLENTY of black independent artists making really soulful stuff. I'm not understanding the whole white people are the only ones bringing the soul argument - especially when those white people usually have black people doing their beats and hooks.

Also, reading this thread reminded me of when people tried to argue that Justin Timberlake's success has nothing to do with his skin color :pachaha:

usher is washed. he was done the second he stopped working with JD.

he dropped 2 flopped albums before he went pop, and he never was a "soulful" guy anyway. he was always a product of the people around him. he can put on a show tho.

For every JT, Robin Thicke, Mayer Hawthorne there's a million black artists who can do the same thing. Also behind the scenes these soulful white artists enlist the help of plenty of black artists to achieve that sound. W that said tho there r white artists who make/ made authentic soul music tho...but if u posed this question to them they'd laugh cuz they know it isn't true.

I'm put it as simple as I can,
Us black folks hate ourselves,
You can find multiple truths in that line.

And I have no idea why they would make race part of the discussion.

because it's controversial and they know it upsets black people when they say we have fallen off and no longer dominate something we have traditionally taken pride in mastering (ie. music). From what I hear Hot97 is deliberately trying to be provocative in order to gain ratings in the New York urban radio market.

I don't see how Adele's name comes up in these threads.

what actual r&b songs has she done or even attempted to do?

also, ive never heard her on black radio, never saw her on BET or vh1 soul, etc.

I don't even see people talking about her unless im on here. and when I click the links people post, that chit is not r&b.

are the lines that blurred for people now? lol.

She's pop....if not damn near a folk singer, and i love adele, I'm still confused why people call her R&B

nobody listened to her album.... i'v noticed this since that 21 album came out :dead:
the majority of that album is country/pop folk sounding stuff. This girl also had a grammy before that album and writes her own songs, there is nothing to hate and she makes great music.:bryan:

trust me most of the ppl in everyday life don't even realize it......

u know what I mean those types of folks we all know who when a artist becomes huge....they got this REALLY REALLY DISGUSTING habit of assuming its some new artist that is an industry puppet or something...

and im not talking about the Coli experts.....just people in everyday life....like one of our close minded older family members acting like every white musician is the devil....

don't even know she was catching buzz in England about over 5 to 6 years now...

another thing nobody in here mentions is that 9 tiems out of 10......when magazines do the whole hyping thing....they are TROLLING....it is painfully obvious and it kills me how time and time again dudes fall for it....like how dumb can you be?

I remember some magazine made some "Justin bieber new king of pop" troll headline and once again folks fell for it and started to get into paranoid mode talking about how the "media" is already trying to dethrone MJ

@SunZoo the funny thing is that even adele herself in some hbo special earlier this year or last that "my music is pop" ...

Justin timberlake is barely even referred to as soul music....

the comments in here by these same folks in every race music thread is hilarious man :russ:

I would bring up Corinne bailey rae but you already know the whole "light skin" shyt is gonna start up again.......
