Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
You seem to be only concerned with dissing women
Were you abused as a child, scared to smile, they called you ugly?

Made him do this

[Interlude]
Say Jay-Z, why you gotta go and disrespect the women for, huh?

[Verse 2: Jay-Z]
(bytch) Sisters get respect, bytches get what they deserve
Sisters work hard, bytches work your nerves
Sisters hold you down, bytches hold you up
Sisters help you progress, bytches will slow you up
Sisters cook up a meal, play their role with the kids
bytches in street with their nose in your biz
Sisters tell the truth, bytches tell lies
Sisters drive cars, bytches wanna ride
Sisters give-up the ass, bytches give-up the ass
Sisters do it slow, bytches do it fast
Sisters do their dirt outside of where they live
bytches have nikkas all up in your crib
Sisters tell you quick "you better check your homie"
bytches don't give a fukk, they wanna check for your homie
Sisters love Jay 'cause they know how Hov' is
I love my sisters, I don't love no bytch

Think it was more the biting and dikkriding shots, the lack of originality, and personal attacks. To this day, the biggest criticism you can hit Jay with is that he almost never brought anything original to the table. He a GOAT but story of his career is being an extremely dope rapper who very skilled at hopping on the latest trend and putting his spin on it.

The "Foxy got you hot cause you kept your face in her puss, what you think you getting girls now cause of your looks (with the "I love GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS" adlib in a super disgusted voice :mjlol:) was straight up disrespectful

And the gay jokes seem weak or lazy in 2022 but calling another black man gay in that era, one with a image as masculine as Jay's, was seen as extremely disrespectful. You just didn't do that. Especially, "you a dikkriding fakkit, you love the attention, Queens nikkas run you nikkas, act Russell Simmons" was delivered in such a disrespectful tone it's hard to convey how hard that line hit back then

Breh I enjoy reading post from brehs who actually was around when things happened in real time.

Real time accounts are priceless.

Nas defeating Jay was THE best thing that ever happened in hip hop, the underdog literally slaying the camel dragon that was propped up and protected by the industry.

Jigga on takeover

Know you's the faq model for Karl Kani, Esco ads

That's why your (lame) career's come to an end

but

Nastradamus also went platinum

Nas was on Hot Boys with Missy that was 5 on the billboard

Nas had better disses to Jay and the entire rocafella than ether. H to the omo freestyle, you're da man, last real nikka alive, etc

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
The whole third verse did him in.. I really feel like the first two was throwaways.. But the third was just line after line of pure craziness
The reason for it is cause Nas had the tone Ether down twice before he released the version we got. The record label said it was too harsh and disrespectful so they wouldn’t let Nas put it out.

Nas was talking to JAY on Ether. Poked fun at all of his insecurities and said shyt that him and Jay personally knew was true even if the world didn’t. Then he made it catchy and had everybody running around saying “fukk Jay Z”. Droppin the diss on his birthday etc etc. Jay was talkin to the public. Nas was talking to Jay. Nas knew Jay more than any of the public did. So he played against his insecurities.
