This is a touchy topic, especially among white introverted fanboys who are conflicted by trying to be too sensitive (a defense mechanism to allow them to interact with females albeit in a platonic way) and sudden urges of realness in recognizing that an increasing number of these women are attention ho's.
A few months ago, Tony Harris, the artist of Starman and several other projects including Deus Ex, basically called out Cosplay women at conventions are phony and toying with nerds, while secretly laughing behind their backs. A bunch of feminist and comic blogs then got in an uproar asking how he could even think that hot chicks who barely wear anything at conventions with horny male virgins are attention ho's.
The thing I have against some of this manufactured outrage is, that these conventions are all these nerds have in the form of a refuge. Now you got these snarky women at the convention, straight up laughing at dudes calling them ugly and ish, while still depending on their attention. The saddest part is I know one of these nerdy dudes who defended stuckup women at conventions on his blog just cause today's generation is taught to be PC at all times, but secretly confessed that these ho's are the worst; they ain't interested in comics and they ain't interested in hooking up.
I haven't read a comic book since around '94 but all that geek shyt is mainstream in 2013. You got movies like "Avengers" doing $1.5 billion, "Lord of The Rings" breaking records, all the shyt that was considered nerdy 20+ years ago is pop culture now. You got a "Game of Thrones" avatar for example, the show got 5 million people watching each week.
Everyone, all walks of life, race, age bracket, etc. attend comic conventions nowadays. And it's not necessarily for the comics. San Diego Comic-Con has a whole day featuring TV shows like "Breaking Bad", "Sons of Anarchy", "Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia", etc.
Hell, Vin Diesel is a huge comic/Dungons & Dragons nerd. The game done changed.
Fred.

Vin Diesel is gay breh. Literally. Not a great example lol
And what does GoT gotta do with geeks gathering at a comic convention?![]()
