I can agree with K&P having better acting but I can't name one classic K&P skit off the top. Meanwhile, CS has a memorable skit basically in every episode.
And I agree with others in here when they say K&P kills a funny segment by going overboard with it.

The Dave stuff seems left field to me too.

Also, the framing of that Unforgiven bit is wild. It's being called a Netflix special but it was just a 15 minute clip he posted on Instagram. :dwillhuh: It's not a Netflix special, and neither is 8:46 for that matter.

Stick and Stones was his last special. And it was funny.

And Dave has gone through the trenches. He's been through some wild shyt. He's put in so much work, and at this point he's sort of gone past the genre.

also i agree sticks and stones was the last special...... the last two pieces would be the equivalent of a rappers EP or mixtape. shyt even just a loosey. anyone grading it as though its a stand up special is wildin

completely agree. we gotta stop comparing everyone and everything.

obviously dave is a goat without question

but that doesnt take away from key and peele. TBH i appreciate key and peele more for what they have created after their show. this show opened that door for them both to get in great positions.

The so called “magic” on anything falls away after some time though.

Like someone said.... even looking at some of the Chappelle skits today are not as funny as they were back then.

I’m a big fan of Chappelle and even have the DVDs but even today there are some that don’t get a chuckle out of me. I’m not by any means saying they trash.

Prime example the “Pop Copy” and “Wrap it up”

Key & Peele's problem is they don't know when to end a skit. They have a funny joke and then just let it drag and drag.

fair enough but even Chappelle had skits that lasted 2 segments. Like literally come back from a commercial and it was “part 2”

Low key..... it kind feels like more people always hated on K&P or them in general because for some reason they didn’t like “them”.

Like people LOVE Dave, so like even prime time example of his last standup, he can literally just stand on stage, not tell one joke and be angry and people will be like “that’s dope”

People really only start to change on atleast Peele after he started doing Horror movies and they saw “he’s really down for the cause” per say.

But I think if they weren’t as “prejudged” people would be more open to them

Chapelle show aged terribly.

what’s crazy is a lot of people won’t admit how poorly that show is aging and i was a big fan back in the day. Dave himself admitted how much socially irresponsible shyt he did what that show and clearly the network literally let him do anything because the cash truck was about to roll in.

On that little 18 min video he put on IG he said he might just do another show like it but he knows that’s never going to happen. Now, he had some classic skits, which can’t be denied. But him just coming up with whatever and lame as Neal co-signing makes the show a bit hit or miss on rewatches. Dave got that slap in the face wake up call too damn late during the show when it turned out people weren’t laughing with him after all.

It's a 'special', stand up bit, rant concerning Netflix, not a Netflix special lol, it's not on the service as some of the thread titles and headlines seem to suggest.

I think that's down to background. Chappelle was a stand up while Key and Peele were classically trained/improv theater guys.

Some already commented but it wasn't just acting, the production value of K&P was incredibly high. They legit had skits with the look and feel of Hollywood movies.

What really hurt K&P as a show is this:

Key & Peele's problem is they don't know when to end a skit. They have a funny joke and then just let it drag and drag.
Yup, this skit is a classic example.

After the two minute remark or so it just becomes exaggerated repetition of the same joke far beyond the point where you're like 'I get it, man!' even though the joke in itself is funny.

K&P had better everything except execution....

their acting and sketch ideas were the best I’ve ever seen in a sketch show, they just didn’t always pull it off correctly

To be honest I can’t even watch Chappelle show anymore. It’s just not entertaining to me. :yeshrug:

I remember dying laughing at some of this shyt. Now I don’t even crack a smile

It's not purely the length, though - it's the content. Key and Peele stretch a singular joke or concept out longer than it needs to be, whereas Chappelle sketches are multifaceted. Its okay to have a long sketch if it's not just telling the same joke over and over again
