but your brain doesn't register "spicy" as a taste. There is no "spicy" flavor.
there's just the flavor of food and chemical irritation/burn.
It's the flavorless irritation/burn that makes it what it is.
You become addicted to the pain, which is why some sauces can taste exactly the same, but you don't like the mild because it isnt "hot" enough. You need the Fire sauce.
edit: you can also think of it like carbonation. There's no "carbonation" flavor, just the feeling of lots of tiny bubbles.
