I don’t like how they always pick a single parent to make these studies.

Even if you were a single person with no children making $80,000 a year,
Rent would take up 50% of your take home salary in most major cities.
That is intentional. It shows the problem, but also ensures that many will not take the problem seriously enough to actually band together to fix it.

Supply and demand. After 2008-2012, the mom and pops builders got wiped out and never came back. Notice all the new developments. Massive houses, luxury apartments, and townhomes. When was the last time you’ve seen a starter home being built?

Something like 30M undocumented people here. Where are they living? Politic fukks haven’t addressed the border since Bush. Inflation is eating through our pay checks.

shyt is sad but what is the answer? Some cities and counties offer tax breaks for rent control developments.

You build 50k efficiencies here in Atlanta, that still wouldn’t be enough unfortunately.

And they still calling these first world nations. This is a mark of juvenile or failed nations.

We are in some unprecedented times friends. What we think we know of the world will change a lot in our lifetime. Housing is a necessity. Without it family cannot take root. Society has lost its way to capitalism unchecked

Conflict of interest between the wealthy people funding politicians and their constituents. Nimby folks dont want multifamily housing . Neither do they want expanded public transit. The bankers that own the existing multifamily housing dont wanna lower the price of their housing stock. So the politicians wont move.

Only way to fix the overall problem is for the people to revolt to the extent that the wealth class backs down. Last time that occured was during occupy wallstreet more than a decade ago, and that effort basically destroyed when the DNC cut the throat of Bernie Sanders. Ideally you would get a reaction similar to the outcry during the george floyd protests. But..

And there is a great deal of complacency in the american population relative to our foreign peers when it comes to this kinda stuff. So its unlikely such a thing will occur. The only folks worse than us are the east asian countries and the brittish in complacency. I garuntee you that the french would have already started burning cars and looting buildings under the same circumstances. Same could be said for our counterparts in latin america and the middle east.

Fixed.
