What part you from da Boot breh? Shreveport here.... Ratchet City
Do black Houstonaians REALLY rock the cowboy aesthetic? or is this just cosplay for the rodeo
I lived there as a young child (younger than 5) and have visited in the last decade (didn't see anybody wearing cowboy hats) so from my own eyes i'd say no but I could be wrong so asking
I have family there and only one of them wears a cowboy hat when he comes back up north to visit but i think he's doing that for attention
I mean there is a horse riding culture in philly (there was a whole movie on it with Idris Elba) but i'd never say black people in philly REALLY are into the cowboy lifeYou wrong. My best friend entire family is full of cowboys. We're all from 5th Ward. He got a whole ranch in Hempstead. They just did the Black Rodeo Trail Ride last week. Hell... It can be a random sati and you'll see a rack of nikkas scrolling down Almeda Genoa on their horses. That's how it is down here.
Crazy part is I've done all of this shyt with them. Moved hay. Raised chickens. Shoed and unshoed horses. Even steered the wagon...
But I WILL NEVER get on the back of a horse ever again. fukk that.
Boys don't get it...the original cowboys was Black. They was ranch handlers working for the ranch. You wrong. My best friend entire family is full of cowboys. We're all from 5th Ward. i need to google those areas in houston you mention cause when i was there I never saw anyone walking around in cowboy clothes. I'm not disagreeing with you btw I'm just not sure why I saw zero evidence of it while there. Houston is a big city, maybe I was just in the wrong areas (stayed near the medical center which I know is no mans land, but visited family near G.Bush high school , went to westheimer and the galleria etc)

Screwston really got a cowboy culture, maybe not in the inner cities but it's nothing to see them on horseback for parades and Juneteenth celebrations.
shyt Shreveport got a cowboy culture, that's why a lot of South Louisiana call us Texans
Yep. I'm posed to be doing some art on Houston Culture. They don't know this know this tho...outside of New Orleans, Houston has the 2nd strongest cultural identity that is iconic in the deep south. One of my main homies is from Shreveport. We used to call him North Texas.
But if you got to Acress Home, Lincoln City, 5th Ward, or Hiram Clarke, you'll see it. Cowboy culture is in full effect in those spots.

Yessir. My old boss raised cattle and would clean up during the rodeo selling livestock. Went to the Black Rodeo Trail Ride that started in PV one year and maaaaaan. It was so much fukkin on that trail ride it was wild (RVs be hooked up)but one of the best experiences of my life. For those that aint familiar we have a ton of black cowboys down here that really live that life. You wrong. My best friend entire family is full of cowboys. We're all from 5th Ward.
