Maybe he meant WAKE UP in the Spike Lee, School Daze sense - he was merely encouraging those homeless gentlemen to take stock of their plight, the world around them, and how they could better assert themselves for the remainder of their years. A "carpe diem" sort of thing. Terrance Jones was seeking to inspire. The "stomp" was his version of a firm pat on the back.
