You mean New Orleans. Nobody was looking at the south as a movement until NL/Cash money

Pretty much agree with this. Beforehand, it was just dudes from your city dropping fire :pachaha:. Houston's mainstream run only lasted 2 and a half years or so, but if you lived here, Houston had been dropping heat for a loooooong time. That southern takeover was basically kick-started in 98 with peak No Limit, then Hot Boys. Houston's run was short, but your faves today have been using their style since then.

Mike Jones is Rakim for Christ's sake compared to the trash ATL was putting out :martin:

Cause UNK, Shop Boyz, Fabo, Jeezy, Waka, OJ da Juiceman, were the pinnacle of rap right:rudy:

Hey know don't lump Jeezy in there with the rest of them :russ:

Houston
Thank you, I remember bumping them gray tapes, and nikkas looking at me crazy.
Still have shoe boxes full of the original grey tapes I picked up when Screw use to sell them out of his house on Friday nights.
Scarface, devin, geto boyz, z-ro and ugk.
Not to mention Fat Pat, ESG, Mr 3-2, Street Military, Trae, KeKe, Big Moe, and Hawk.

Revisionist history. Atlanta came into play in a legit way about 2001-2003. Outkast was already out for a couple years, then Luda came out and brought alot of attention as a new artist from the area. Then TI, Lil Jon and the whole Crunk movement took a hold around 2003 - 2004. Young Jeezy the year later.

Then Houston blasted through and took over from 2005 to 2006. A short reign.

Then Florida/Miami had their run from about late 2006 to about 2008.

The Snap movement in Atlanta replaced Crunk music in 2006 but, Houston was more in the forefront with Miami taking over after that.

Then Wayne took over rap.

Then Drake, J. Cole & Kendrick came in.

Then after that I stopped caring because all these new nikkas were corny.

Master P & No limit is the real answer

Hell yea.

Master P could have made his Pitbull a glittery Pen & Pixel album with the dog just barking over Beats By The Pound tracks and that shyt would have went platinum.

This.

Its also why its erroneous to ctedit No Limit or CMR with blowing up The South. 2001-2003 was a pivotal period for The Soth because untapped areas in The South were getting National attention. Petey put The Carolinas on the map with "Raise Up". Nappy Roots put Kentucky on the map with "Awnaw". David Banner put Mississippi on the map with "Get Down".
