Someone will absolutely give up TOP prospects for Ohtani right now, even as a rental. If you trade for him as a contender, you are getting both a top of the line rotation arm and one of the best hitters in baseball. You plug two holes in your team with one trade.

Even as a rental, the Angels would get a haul.

The best part about the mid season trade, is the exclusive window to work out an extension. You have half the season to work on it while he's under contract. Might give you a chance to work something out before he becomes a free agent and everybody else in the league starts throwing offers out

They should have traded Ohtani before the season. Or last year at the deadline.

Ohtani was always going to test free agency.

And with how great he’s playing this year, his market value has only gone up and his trade value has only gone down because no one is going to give up top prospects for him now.

But you’re right about trading Trout. When LA loses Ohtani the Angels will go back to being a bad team.

Where does Trout go? No idea.
Assuming Ohtani goes to the Dodgers, maybe the Yankees makes sense for Trout. But if the Yankees did that, they’d probably have to find somewhere to ship Stanton, and I don’t know that the Angels would swap Trout’s contract for Stanton’s contract. NYY would definitely have to include Jasson Dominguez in any deal too, which presents its own challenges.
I said trade Rendon, not Trout. That contract is appalling.

They should have already dealt Trout but he seems happy there.

Just saw my alert about GOATani leaving the game. Hope he isn’t hurt. Wanna hit up the freeway series this weekend. :francis:

Edit: just a blister. Should be good to bat.

Its to the point where as a pitcher Ohtani's ceiling is Josh Beckett. As a hitter... Who knows. He's more exciting as a hitter. Angels azz. If he ever goes to a team with a decent pitching staff and can just focus on hitting, but still pitch sparingly and be ready for the playoffs, he could be dangerous in the post season.
