I still don't understand how Miguel Cabrera lost all his power once he hit 34. He hit 38 in 2016 and he has 62 since then.
It's unusual in the last 20 years or so.
It doesn't help that Cabrera has never really taken care of himself physically. It also doesn't help that he hits in Detroit.
And to some small degree (I couldn't say how much), it doesn't help that his teams have been largely awful, so opponents haven't had to pitch to him.
Is it possible Cabrera was on the juice in his prime? Possible. But look at him. If that guy was on the juice, it was probably grape juice, lol.
Mickey Mantle was done at 36.
Harmon Killebrew played until 39 but was done at 36/37.
Reggie Jackson played until 41 but was done at 37.
Really the guys who have remained strong into their late 30s and 40s were guys connected to the juice: Bonds, Ortiz...
Even with the power being gone, it's kind of remarkable that Cabrera can still hit .250 at 40 years old.
