Not surprised. Jay can be petty, but he will let shyt go a lot of times. See fat joe, Jim Jones, 50 cent ( I get money remix), Tupac, Nas.

I stopped following rap yeeeeears ago, I'd hear a song here and there, but I wasn't checking for any new artists. To show you how serious it is, I had checked out before 50 Cent's 'Get Rich...' and to this day, have never sat and listened to that album. I have never heard a Lil' Wayne album. I remember dude with the Hot Boyz, and next thing I know, he's a huge solo star.

Maybe not following rap closely is why I literally can't understand how straight black men LIKE Drake. Not like a song. You can like a song from anybody; but to straight up be fans of some Charmin soft, light-skinned nikka, with the voice of a 14 year-old??

It's like falling into a coma when beepers were poppin', and coming out of it in 2018.

When Master P and Puffy started dominating the airwaves, I started losing interest. That was 97. By 1999, I had started listening purely to underground hip hop, and by 2000 or 2001, I was into other genres of music almost completely. By that time, all of my friends had gone to different states, and I was going running solo. The chicks I dealt with didn't listen to rap - I was dating sistas exclusively at that point - and I was listening to other genres heavily. I'm a musician, and was listening to music that had strayed faaar away from rap.

I heard some songs over the years, by being in different environments where rap was played - but that was the extent of my exposure to rap music.

Talk to me about 90s rap, and I got a lot of conversation.

I guess when rap started getting commercialized is when the quality got worse .. I was born in 2000 so I was raised on the 50/Wayne/Kanye/TI generation

Oh, shyt. LOLOL. I was born in 1980. No wonder I sound like I'm talking crazy to you. I could've had a child your age if I had gotten a chick pregnant when I was 20.

Yeah, the commercialization was in over-drive by 2000.

I'm more of a 'purist'. Bars and beats, and you have to write your shyt. I'll excuse hooks, but your verses have to have been penned by you.
