Puerto Ricans in Chicago just seems weird
hell them anywhere outside of NY and FL is weird as hell.
They're all over PA too. There are a decent amount in Hampton Roads as well. They're slowing trickle down to Baltimore.

Kinda different here than NY because the neighborhoods are extremely racially segregated. Ricans and black folk mix a bit in West Humboldt Park and to a lesser extent in Garfield Park and Austin. Black co-workers I've had who were from Englewood or Back of the Yards talk about Humboldt like they're scared but in general people from one side of the city seem to be cautious about the other side so I dunno. I didn't grow up here so might be missing something.
I think if you're Rican in the city there's two paths for you. One is assimilation into (white) middle class, suburb life. I got family in this path and they for sure have some racist leanings, they also look down on Ricans in the city as lower class. The other path is staying in the city around the historical community. With that, a lot of the community leaders go back to the independenista and Young Lords Party days and they preach that black and brown people should be allied and have more in common than differences, etc. Its hard to believe folks are exposed to that kind of talk as much in NY with a much larger community

Puerto Ricans out here are cool for the most part. I've had personal issues with a few individuals though.
But they do have a lot of racists and jealous motherfukkers in their ranks.

I feel like Ricans in Chicago kinda mix in with blacks. @Toyota what you think? They seem to mix in the same neighborhoods and I see tons of Rican dudes with black girls or vice versa.
This is funny because I know of absolutely no middle class professional puertoricans. On the flip side, I know tons of professional Mexicans. Every Puerto Rican family I know is blue collar and don’t seem to appear to have white collar ambition. This older Rican dude I know has a granddaughter that is really excelling in school. She’s a dark skin Puerto Rican and I’ve been trying to convince her to apply to Spelman and join a black sorority because I know the good that it would do for her identity (considering the colorism in the Latino community) to see black women that look like her on some excellence type shyt.. Her family doesn’t know anything about college.
