I'm in the minority, but I always thought ironman was better than OB4CL.

also, I agree with the Tical sentiments. I didn't think the album was that great outside of those singles like bring the pain and release yo delf either. I wasn't even a huge fan of the mary j blige single as I preferred the OG version.

matter of fact, out of the early wu shyt (1st gen solo albums), I thought meth's album was the worst. behind the likes of:

ODB
GZA
ghost
rae

Agreed with most of this. Tical was definitely the weakest of the initial run of solos, to me anyways

I thought it would be one of the best but it just felt a little underwhelming compared to the others. That being said it's still
a pretty good album...first time I listened to it, hearing that title track was :ooh::ohlawd: but nothing else on there
was as good as that to me

Disagree about Ironman being better than Cuban Linx tho. But OB4CL is my favorite album of all time, so :manny:

As far as the thing with the flood, wasn't the most or all of the RZA beats set for Decks first album lost then?

I remember hearing this somewhere, and thinking a mid to late 90s Deck album with Ironman/Liquid Swordz level production
would have been :noah:

hearing tracks like Cold War and Sparing Minds, I thought a GZA/Deck album would've been great

it didnt sell the album but it was a big hip-hop record.

used to come on the box all the time. this was when wutang started hitting the kids.

then they took off a few months later.

yup. it was all set up for meth. he had a solo song on 36 chambers. then the huge singles with bring the pain and all I need. plus he came with "how high" remix off the show soundtrack. everyone thought he was gonna be the frontman for the clan at first til other members dropped better projects than him.

meth still is the frontman tho.

In 94 technically Method Man was the 2nd Biggest Rapper in New York next to Biggie. Yes NaS was there but "Tical" blew up something heavy. Plus he had carry over from shinning on the Wu album. Meth was speical, till this day he's still my favorite Wu member. Also I respect that Biggie felt only Meth should be the only rap guest appearance on "Ready To Die". His flow was vicious. I mean it was just deadly. So yes "METHOD MAN" was huge for Meth's career as it really put him OUT there. It wasn't a huge Pop hit but a huge Hip Hop Hit and it did help the "36 Chambers" go Platinum. It's also the reason Meth was the 1st Wu solo cause he shined on "M.E.T.H.O.D. MAN !". Big even shouted out the song on RTD:

"The Blunts and Brew thang, Knockin some Wu Tang, M.E.T.H. Oh Sh!t, Look at those hips and those lips on that b!tch" - Biggie

It was huge, so was All That I Need. He was set to be the original 'star' in the Wu, before Ghost and Rae really became
fan favorites

Interesting... Im really not a Wu stan. So to hear this is interesting. I still think Meth is the star member. So Im wrong on that??

if that's true that sucks. INS album didn't drop til 1998, and didn't have much rza production on it, and thus was mediocre.

it's a shame he didn't drop earlier when rza was in his prime and more involved.

Well straight from the beginning he had the charisma and flow to stand out and was generally expected to be the 'star' of the group, plus like
someone already said had the only solo cut on Wu's debut, which was huge

His charisma is pretty evident/obvious, I mean he's had movie rolls etc. played Cheese for 4 seasons on one of the best shows ever made, etc.
It's just his solo albums didn't end up being all that compared to other members. 'Tical' wasn't as strong as it needed to be since expectations were set so high, and the follow up was way too bloated with filler and skits. His third album is terrible. 4.20 was dope as hell but that was way later and the industry had changed by then

Plus the wait between his albums was too long, compared to say Ghost, who was dropping consistently good/great albums every 2 or 3 years for a decade or more.

EDIT: His 4th album was 4:21, not 4.20 :snoop:

that's what they all say. however, I liked the new sound he developed after. it was much more polished and less grimey.

Meth IS one of my Favorite Rappers - Underrated and one oft he best flows in the game

He floats on effortlessly on Wu tracks :wow:

And Besides Jay the only rapper (IMO) to hold his own toe for toe with Biggie on wax.:mjpls:

"Verse 2/ comin' with that ol' E brew
Meth-Tical/ Putting nikkas back in I.C.U
I'm lifted troop/ you can bring ya wack ass crew
I got connections/ I'll get that ass stuck like glue"
:wow:
