Seal had big records before Kiss From A Rose, but Batman took him to another level. Crazy shyt is Kiss From a Rose was out before the movie but once they put it out, it blew up and they had to scramble to make a video. He did a cover of Fly Like and Eagle and that blew up as well.

I guess he was cool in Europe but he definitely blew up in America with “kiss from a rose” and the “Fly like an eagle” cover. Those songs were everywhere, being played in the movie theater lobbies, the Batman ride at six flags, sporting events, radio, commercials, etc.

He was basically the man for a hot second, even if it’s likely due to a huge promotional push to sell the movie soundtracks, toys, and tickets.

It pretty much worked. If I think of anything batman, I mentally hear “kiss from a rose”. “Fly like an eagle, I think of space jam. We can forget that we may be pretty well insulated from pop culture outside of our borders. I think Seal is or was pretty iconic worldwide. If he wasn’t he wouldn’t have been dating Heidi Klum.

That one song "and we're never gonna survive....unless...we get a little crazy" introduced me to seal back in 91 and I became a fan. "One of them has a gun...to shoot the other one...but they were friends in school" resonated with me something serious due to the environment 9 year old me was living in.

Was surprised to see him blow up, he was definitely more popular with white folk by far. Kiss from a rose was played nonstop on Vh1 it seemed like. I liked that album, it was very different and unique
