Jay Z isnt even the best rapper from his burough and can barely crack top 10 in the city.... New Yorks history is so much richer than you guys give it credit for...Jay was never ellite in a golden era...

yeah and all those rappers are walking around with metal detectors in the diamond district hoping someone dropped a ruby while Jay-z has come out on top after like 20 years and shows no signs of decline

Lol, people getting more and more ignorant, it's sad.

I can debate Jay being the best from NY ever cause I think KRS-One and Nas have a better discography, don't know where Pac would be classed from but I also think Pac's better.

And to disrespect Big Daddy Kane and Rakim is crazy, they are incredible MC's.

Umm... isn't Nas from New York City?
Rappers from NY that are better than Jay-z off the top of my head:

Nas the greatest rapper alive. Period
Mos Def
Jeru Da Damaja
Sean Price
Roc Marciano
Talib Kweli
Buckshot
Prodigy (right now)
Fabolous
Joey Badass
Cam'ron

There more but that's just off the top of my head

if you step back for a second and listen to the amount of good music Jay-z has put out and even low key put out its actually amazing. he has been in the game so much longer than Biggie for example and has put out so much better material from girl songs to street songs to rich man songs to feel good songs. people mention rappers like Rakim, Big Daddy Kane or whoever....gag me with a fukking spoon those guys music are outdated and never came with success because overall it was basic stoop NYC music only people from there could like

i am no jay-z stan but after listening to Whoo kid spin his mix on jay-z and then me stepping back to think about all the jay-z songs ive heard in my life i really do appreciate him. easily one of the best rappers ever and by far the best from NYC even shyts on NAS

too each is own but i think Wu-tang is trash IMO. other than like 3 songs from them all their tracks today in 2013 are skippable. if im cruising with someone to the bar and the put on some Wu-tang im getting out of the car, listening to my iphone of better shyt close to my ear and walking my ass to where i was going

to each his own indeed...

Nas is the best rapper alive. Jay z is my nikka but he's a STRONG second. I just prefer Nas' lyricism and content over Jay's. Listening to ****** right now again and :wow: so slept on.

Jigga has a decent flow and mic presence but dude don't talk about shyt except the same old braggadocio bullshyt, there is only so much I can hear about how rich this fukk n!gga is and how once upon a time he sold crack, Get the fukk outta here with this shyt. I will take Ghostface and Nas and probably 10 other NYC dudes over him all day every day.

I disagree Biggie is the goat but Jay-z is a close second and Nas is a very far 3rd followed by Rakim.
