Neck ties and boxing gloves.
Because it took over a decade for him to blow up while younger guys where putting out albums in their teens/early twenties that are considered classic.

When Jay crossed over, the climate was dry and even then he wasn't the biggest act out.

So hold on are we talking about music or his come up in the business world? Music wise, he wasn't that nice. Reasonable doubt was dope but him being the GOAT? Being up there with biggie and nas? You bugging. He top 20 in NY rappers but never was top 10 in nothing as far as rap overall. His content and albums dumbed down to double his dollars. Him jacking Biggies rhymes to a generation of fans who never grew with big and didn't know better and he took advantage of that. One thing to homage but this guy was taking entire rhyme schemes, cadences, flows and all. His constant dikk riding trends ( using young Chris flow to jumping on sped up soul samples to trying to jump on autotune to dissing autotune to dissing timberland boots to watching kanye rock timberland boots to jumping back on timberlands to dissing skinny jeans then to rocking em) diminished his status to me. Never was a trail blazer just got rich off selling his image to people.

And I find it insulting that you people think I have to like this guy. Like if I have a difference of opinion I'm a hater. That's what's wrong with the world today. Everyone is sheep because they don't wanna be labeled a "hater" because they don't agree with you. I don't hate the guy, I just don't think he is that nice.

Is there a difference? :troll:

When Jay crossed over, the climate was dry and even then he wasn't the biggest act out.

Yet they're gone and he's still here.

I think Jay's had an amazing career, probably the only rapper today with a better career is Eminem. But Jay's run is the more remarkable one to me. For one, he's black. Two, he's not a pretty boy. Three, he's old as dirt. Four, he's not the best lyricist out. What he has over these other guys is that he thinks very methodically. He micro-manages his shyt down to the last detail. Once he drops an album he tours and then lays low for the rest of the year. That's why it never seems like he's overexposed. Compare that to a nikka like Wayne who's everywhere. You need to give the people a chance to miss you for a minute. That way, every album release becomes an event.

So no, Jay-Z is not the best rapper out there, but he's definitely one of the artists who's new shyt people look forward to the most.

can he micro-manage his lyrics? :patrice:

cake cake cake

Like I said, not the best rapper out anymore, but we still look forward to his verses. Even haters will run into any post with a new Hov verse. Why? Coz despite what they claim, they do care about it.

But you always checkin for him right?

Put it like this, I think DMX fell off years ago. Guess what, when his new shyt drops I don't even bother listening to it. But even people who hate Jay-Z will always download his shyt because they still care enough to shyt on it. They don't get that active hate works just as well as love in keeping him relevant. What kills rappers careers is indifference.

it ain't shyt to check someone out. that dmx and rakim song is all sorts of awful. dmx wasn't a lyrics guy. look at his verse from black out. rudimentary at best. i love rap. i love listening to any everyone. but i also have a short fuse, if you don't capture me in that first verse, things get very bad.

if someone can touch your soul, you're going to neglect them because their followers on twitter isn't high enough.

Look at the Jay-Z dikk riding trends thread for your reply.
