It is one of the successes of the COINTELPRO that it established character assassination as a substitute for political analysis in many quarters of the Movement.

These moves, as defined by the COINTELPRO, are designed to "disrupt, discredit, destroy and otherwise neutralize" all real and potential Black nationalist and activist leadership and leadership groups (Senate Hearings, Church Report). It is still continued until this day.

1. Infiltration: Agents and informers did not merely spy on political activists. Their main purpose was to discredit and disrupt. Their very presence served to undermine trust and scare off potential supporters.

One thing to keep in mind though...counter intelligence programs are directed toward any group the fbi or cia view as a threat to civil order or the union. This also includes neo nazi and skinhead groups and the american socialist party. It also includes the southern christian coalition (mlk) and black panther party.

COINTELPRO as a strategy to avoid civil unrest is not inherantly evil. But clearly, how they are implemented can be.

Exactly....I don't know why some of these coli folks think that a lot of our people are caught up on what's happened and is happening.

I schooled some brothers on the CIA/CONTRA operation, told them about how this government funded their military coup in Nicaragua during the reagan era by infusing cocaine and gun runners, specifically the original Rick Ross throughout the Black communities and these dudes looked like they were gradeschoolers just learning their ABC's.....

And operations similar to this still go on at this very moment...i.e Afghanistan and southeast asia.....We have a lot of sleep people.....

I have always pointed toward self determination make it happen or move out of the US we know the deal is we are last in every category in terms of economical and social indicators in the US and the population is going to stay static we don't have the numbers on our side

Would be a fool to believe its not going on today, targeting any sort of internal dissent (any group criticizing the white capitalist order).
