How College got so expensive

Summary:
-College used to be free or cheaper until student protests started popping off around a war that America had no business being in and which was costing tax payers millions of dollars to essentially subsidize arms manufacturers(Vietnam)

-Colleges used to be very exclusionary, and the added cost of tuition helped keep black people out

-If the barrier to entry wasnt there, there's a risk that the student protests in college will spill over to the general public and lead to a general strike which would put a pause on the economy until people's demands are met

-Military recruiters can lure you into joining with the offer of paying for school. Take that away, they have less tools.

-It's a myth that vocational training is not the same as going to college, and trades are not as easy to get into as people think. Once you associate college with useless majors, policy makers can justify slashing their funding.

-Free college-->More people getting into fields that are understaffed like medicine and keep people from suffering in debt. Average student loan debt is 20 years.

-Free/Cheap college is not a new idea. it's actually a form of conservatism because you're going back to how things were.

College is expensive because just like the pharmaceutical industry, they realized they can charge ppl whatever tuition bc it'll be subsidized by loans and students taking on debt/not paying out of pocket.

The college system as it currently is, needs to change.

I heavily DO BELIEVE that the military is sabotaging the general public into keeping college expensive, so that they can recruit desperate young people.

Give free college to all, and their numbers will practically disappear.

Nice vid. IMO college is expensive because they can make it expensive. They know they have a product people won't challenge it's quality or price. People don't factor all the streams of revenue colleges are receiving outside of tuition. In other words, they stopped being learning institutions and became businesses.

They usually start and target high schoolers anyways. Kind of a lost cause looking for volunteers on campuses. The majority of ones that would join at that point will do so voluntary knowing the perks that come with a degree and joining the military.

Disagree. Though I do agree with ppl saying a lot of people are majoring in things without thinking about the job market/future.
