This man should read Audiobooks... This accent is also known as the translatlatic accent, white English South Africans had it too.
It was a way Anglo educated aristocratic people tried to sound more British/English without having to fake an Oxford /English accent.

So they developed this standardized way of speaking, letting certain words "roll".. Deliberate passes, even the gestures, the manner and tone in which they say "extraordinary" (Ex-Straw'd'nry).

I find all this stuff FASS'nate'n
I was going to say this as well. My pops who is West Indian but lived in London since the 50s had this type of accent.

At times, some Black America like Nina Simone's inflection would remind me of old Caribbean folks I grew up around

Long term effects of integration and influences in technology, education, and sadly, like breh was saying... having to be non-threatening and somehow apologetic for
your culture and style to succeed in advancing corporate America in the 80s.

Add the mix - systemic repression of Black business, school to prison pipeline, and gentrification - You end up developing an almost Bi-Lingual Black person that has to heave themselves into white culture reluctantly at first...but over time it becomes accepted and normal.

Destruction of business and community is my answer.
Thats an enlightening response. But you dont think some of it is just change over time (decades)? :manny:

I mean look at how white dudes talked in the 1950s

shyt was cold :wow:

If you want to hear James Baldwin debate a demon, watch this. Baldwin castrates Buckley in this. They both have very interesting accents

Talking that straight shyt from 32 mins

"RFK said maybe in 40 years we might have a negro President"
"from the point of view of the man in the Harlem barbershop Boby Kennedy only got here yesterday, and he is already on his way to the Presidency"

"We've been here for 400 years and he tells us in 40 years, if you are good, we might let you be President".

Preciate it... To answer your question - technology and modes of communication increased brevity and formalization across the board in my opinion.

Just like cursive is too varied and complex for today's society based on speed and ease of visual translation into other media.

I think that early orators such as Malcolm and Medgar were deliberate, sharp and way more eloquent than any white man of the time...hence how they resonated with all the world.

Yeah that's the real phenomena right there. Someone once told me, you cant build with complex units. If you use simple units, you can build something complex. This generation speaks smart and efficiently :yeshrug:

Its just a shame they extend that philosophy to music :francis:

You gotta let complex ideas live somewhere :francis:
