Southern Democrats were conservatives and/or racists, we all know this. 90% of them became Republicans in 1960s-1970s.
Also, the South voted for conservative and moderate Democrat governors and state legislators up until the 1990s.

Ever since Obama was elected, a lot of conservatives Democrats showed their true colors and either left the party and/or voted for Romney/Trump.
Conservative Democrats are very few nowadays, they're not anything to worry about. Also, the Democratic Party has become more liberal in the past decade, the Democratic Party platform in 2016 was the most liberal in the party's history.

But if you're saying Al Gore was a Dixiecrat, meaning someone that opposed the CRA, supported state rights and segregation when he became VP and the Dem nominee then you're wrong.
