How come people pretend that Drew Brees chose New Orleans over Miami?

on the Thursday Night football pregame, Peter King made the bogus assertion/question to Drew:

"Do you ever wonder what it would have been like if you had chosen Miami?" :stopitslime:

Shiz, Drew wanted Miami but Miami didn't want him due to his torn labrum.

Nick Saban chose Daunte (who had a knee injury) over Drew due to doctor's recommendations.

Drew would have taken his talents to South Beach if they had chosen him. Let's be real.

The storyline that won’t go away - Drew Brees

I hate how people hail Drew as some guy who righteously chose the down and out post-Katrina New Orleans

To be fair, I don't think anyone saw Drew Brees becoming what he became in New Orleans.
A dude coming off that kind of injury who was just 30-28 as a starter in San Diego....80 TD, 53 INT

Let's be real, he wasn't a bum but did you really think he'd churn out 5,000 yard passing seasons back then?
Before he got to New Orleans he never even threw for 4,000.

NO was a good mix of luck and fit.

Literally no one who was 18 or older at the time thinks this.

Everybody knew that the Dolphins picked Culpepper over Brees, mainly because he was much cheaper, and also because they were afraid of Brees shoulder problem.

Now, Brees may have chosen New Orleans anyway, but Saban made the choice before it got to that point.

Saban wanted Brees, but Dolphins team doctors nixed it because of his shoulder. Lack of control in personnel decisions like that are most likely what drove him back to college.

That’s just not the truth, though. Drew was looking like a flop his first three years in the league. Then the year they got Rivers and the year after was unquestionably one of the best starters in the NFL. Brees hitting free agency was rare. How often does a QB with multiple seasons of over 25tds and a 65% completion rate go to the highest bidder?

Who could predict he’d have THOSE numbers? No one, as no one could predict the game would change the way it did. But who could predict he’d be an elite QB?

Everyone? He kinda already was

Eh. Brees hit FA and was a 25 TD/15 INT player at the time with a career threatening shoulder injury.

Basically Eli Manning. That's sounds blasphemous but we have to remember him BEFORE the Saints. He wasn't that good.
