Choose Daunte Culpepper over Drew Brees brehs
Saban talked about in that Pivot interview. Said they had Brees ready to sign with the Dolphins but he failed his physical. Wasn’t announced at the time because his agent asked Saban to keep it on the low.

If Brees doesn’t hurt his shoulder against the Broncos in the last game of the season with the Chargers in 05, he signs with Miami and who knows where his and Saban’s career would’ve gone from there. Dolphins could’ve been battling Brady and Peyton.
:wow:

Worked out for the best for Saban though, of course.

He was clearly good but I wasn’t watching him like “wow”
I feel you, though. Hype has alot to do with a persons' perception. Matt Stafford didnt wow me at Georgia, but the scouts loving him, kind of altered my view.

To be fair, I don't think anyone saw Drew Brees becoming what he became in New Orleans.
A dude coming off that kind of injury who was just 30-28 as a starter in San Diego....80 TD, 53 INT

Let's be real, he wasn't a bum but did you really think he'd churn out 5,000 yard passing seasons back then?
Before he got to New Orleans he never even threw for 4,000.

NO was a good mix of luck and fit.
Kinda reflects Steve Nash's career path.Never hit me until now.Mike D'Antoni was the Sean Payton to Steve Nash's Drew Brees. They just never won a title together.
