How come refs never shoot around or practice dribblin moves during timeouts?

Is there a rule that states they can't?

If so, I would get fired as a ref after 1 game.

*lebron air balls a 3 and it goes outta bounds leading to a timeout*

*I blow whistle signaling timeout, get the ball, dribble into 3 pt shot, look at lebron and say "Like that:myman:"*
It's like refs don't have anything to prove... or else they would have an NBA contract. So all LeBron or Kobe or whoever has to do is play "let's compare bank accounts"... and then they get to say "Like that..." :myman:

Side note: I wish I were an NBA ref. Getting paid to ref in the NBA is cash money.

And why dont more former players become refs, especially the ones with financial problems.

Imagine Antoine Walker reffing:banderas:

cuz u gotta start from the bottom doing rec and high school games and pay dues before you would even get a hint of being an NBA ref. haywood workman is the only former player I can think of that's a current ref.

plus, most of the NBA refs are :eat: so well, they never retire for new ones to get on anyways (see dikk bavetta).

Kind of unrelated but I'd like more insight about how refs work, prepare for games, how they interact with players, deal with tough calls etc...must be interesting
