Yeah but you try to build off your last movie career wise so you don't go backwards.

It's why laurence.fisnourne turned down due hard 3 role that went to sam Jackson. Laurence wanted to be a leading man and the play then was if you want the lead you can't do supporting roles. Same with Stacy it's easy in hindsight but at the time your are literally going against all advice from the experts by going backwards or taking low pay again.

Halle got X-Men franchise and mixed in with Bryan Singer, she took off after that.

I mean it’s obvious what that connection would do to one’s career :sas2:

And she was a supporting character. Halle was starting her leading woman run around that time.

The point is for a woman with her appearance, Her entire career would have to be black films if she was going to make it.
She too attractive for those prestige type oscar bait films. they usually cast somebody like Viola or Octavia Spencer. Because they often try to showcase black trauma or struggle in those films. A super model doesn't look as hard down as a frumpy woman.
She her main avenue would be black films until she was lucky enough to get cast in a real breakout film that elevates her to the A list where studios start sending her roles

She could’ve played the role Elise Neal had, which was the wife to what’s his face? Anthony Anderson

Or she could’ve played the stripper role Paula Jai Parker had

Neither of those were the lead role Taraji had but it would’ve been a good look for her to be apart of that movie because the movie did well
