Perhaps. In much of the "third world," there is a much thinner wall between the people and the state, which is why their governments so heavily use brutal tactics to crack down on dissent. They realise that "the people" of the state are far more willing to retaliate.Honestly I think this is what's wrong with a lot of the world today

Yeah Senators used to have much more pride in the Legislative Branch. Co-Equal branches of government and all you would think they would see their position as just as prestigious as the president and even more so because combined they represent America better than one person could ever. that’s not true the electoral college was specifically created to placate the slave states and then them more of a say than majority states in regards to population
That’s part of the reason it was created. But they also didn’t want a bunch of ignorant, uneducated people choosing the president.
