:jbhmm: I was pondering this recently. I actually like EDM, but I noticed that pretty much every mainstream EDM "DJ" is white. I remember Forbes putting out a list of the highest paid DJs last year and they were all white. The only minorities were I think Steve Aoki and DJ Khaled.

Considering EDM's ties with House music, you'd think there'd be more young black producers looking to get into it. I know hip hop and trap beats will be what we gravitate towards first, but there's no reason why EDM can't be a lane we explore and excel in, especially when folks like Chainsmokers are making money off pretty mediocre songs. To me, it seems like a lane we don't explore as much even though I think black producers could thrive in it.

Chances are I'm just not aware of all the black EDM producers. If that's the case, put me up on game. I'm trying to find as many new cats as possible.

Considering EDM's ties with House music,

...aaand here is the issue.

EDM is the repackaging/rebranding of House.
With EDM, they're trying to do a whole lot of consolidating of something that's not that simple.
There are too many sets/sub-genres to Underground Party Music to do that.

What i'm saying is, say you have a DJ who's been doing House music for 20 years.
Then one day, brand new muthafuccers come out doing what you and calling it something else.
You just gonna call what you do something else? Probably not. But because of that, you're probably
not gonna get invited to play their Reindeer Games.

here in Australia there are usually only about 3 nikkas (including myself) in attendance at edm festivals.. I dunno, nikkas just aint about electronic music.

I think you'll find a lot of black artists in the UK underground tho... Carl Cox the OG, but not many other mainstream artists

The complete embarassment this thread is :snoop: Half of the house, techno and edm scene is black if we're talking the producer/dj side and the overall contribution to the genres

How yall american and its me who knows about absolute LEGENDS like chi's dj rashad (rip broski :to:) detroits dj stingray etc etc :gucci:

American niccas STARTED house and techno and fools talmbout its cac music :dead: know your own history brehs

Oh and edm just means electronic dance music...its such a vague term technically i can get :troll: and say hip hop is edm too

And even tho you brehs won't care...in the UK the edm scenes are as much black as they are white (except techno...that is a white male stronghold)
