...it mostly revolves around white bands?

You rarely, if ever see Earth Wind & Fire, Parliament, the Isely Brothers, Kool and the Gang, Bob Marley and the Wailers etc etc mentioned.

Or is that convo only reserved for white Rock/Heavy Metal /Grunge Bands?

I think a lot of it comes down to people hearing the word "band" and thinking of instruments and members playing them.

When it comes to groups like Journey, yes they have hits, fame and success, the memebers play the instruments themselves. Flip over to the Temptations and they are known for singing and dancing but not playing their own instruments.

I wouldn't call the Temptations a "band" I'd call them a group. Same for B2M, New Edition and The Jackson 5.

And no, boy bands aren't bands to me either. That's just alliteration.

He didn’t mention The Temptations. He specifically said groups like the Isley Brothers, EWF, Parliament (I.e. groups that played instruments). Jackson 5 had instrumentalists in the group as well.

Every Black person I've ever met from here has EWF and P-funk among their list of top bands.

White circles and magazines/platforms usually list Rolling Stones and U2 among the best.

We validate Black artists, they validate white artists.
Not only EWF, and PFunk, but the Isley Brothers, Temptations, Jackson 5, Commodores, LTD, OJays, War, Sly and the Family Stone, Kool and the Gang, Switch, Rose Royce, Rufus, and Brothers Johnson. There have been some all time great bands.
