Everytime I go on youtube or wshh and its a song that actually isnt just a chant with some 808s behind it.

I always see comments like "this shyt boring" "nobody wanna hear all these words" "trying too hard" etc.

When did this disconnect happen between the youth and music. I feel songs like this nowadays would be met with a whole bunch of troll comments. When back in the day, young nikkas in their teens and early 20s used to love hearing double entrendres, punchlines, flows, bars etc.

So young people don't love J. Cole he's the second most popular artist :dwillhuh:

Kendrick Lamar :dwillhuh:

Who do you think is listening to Logic and Joey BADA$$? :dwillhuh:

There's young dudes around my way who fiend for Fabolous and Banks mixtapes because they enjoy the lyricism.

Kendrick and J Cole 2 of the biggest.

People have fun to the dumb shyt but if you're dope and have good content you will build a stronger fanbase. Future by far the most "popular" right now but J Cole does double the numbers (albums )

That's why Kendrick Lamar is one of the most popular rappers of this generation right
Kendrick has to pepper ignant phrases and hooks in his music to make it more palatable, and even then some people still deem it boring. It's the emotion behind the pro-blackness and how that serves as a soundtrack to the current oppressive landscape of the country that swayed alot of his new fans, as opposed to the technical skill.
