How could going to a HBCU possibly benefit me more than a PWI would?

Only HBCU's worth attending are Morehouse, Spelman, Howard, and maybe Hampton. I know kids from the first three with great jobs on Wall Street and Fortune 500 companies, the equivalent to what you would see from black kids graduating from the Ivies. I almost went to Howard myself, but they fukked up on my scholarship paperwork so I ended up going to an Ivy.
Maybe Hampton :patrice:

Definitely Hampton :beli:

nikkas that spout off more house spelman and Howard either didn't go to an Hbcu or regurgitating what they hear. And no shade to you but I'm a HU alum so I get tired of the dismissal.

To the OP: Go where ever you want to go. Don't let the:duck:of the fake militants persuade you to go where you don't want to go because at the end of the day they really don't know or care about you in real life. You're not any less black because you want to go to Auburn to save some money, breh. Nikkas talking about HBCUs like they don't prepare you to work for white people, too. :dead::mjlol:

So was the point of this thread for you to feel better in your decision to go there?
Seems like people were coming at OP for choosing Auburn based on the fact that he said "one of his friends was giving him shyt because s/he is going to Tuskegee." Based on that, he wanted justification for why people think going to a HBCU, rather than a PWI, is a better decision for a Black male. OP wanted to go to Auburn from the start.

You gotta do what you can afford breh, but at a PWI like Auburn there will be a level of ostracization that you'll deal with :manny: shyt like that can wear on your pyche.

I made sure all the schools I applied had much diversity because that's very important to me. I don't think I could take being on a completely cac'd out campus for too long. But with that said I didn't really wanna go to an all black school either unless it was Howard or Hampton:yeshrug:

I decided to go to a large diverse public state University in Georgia State University :ehh:

Auburn
Auburn is 85% white
One of my friends been giving me shyt cause they're going to Tuskegee(87% black)

Nah, this was about how if I chose a HBCU it would benefit me anymore than a PWI. Me and homeboy already knew where we were going. That's why they was giving me shyt

you mentioned having a classroom of your own someday??

if you meant k-12, then "where" you go is not so critical
just kick ass, prepare to enter workforce, and graduate on time without too much debt

if you meant college professor
i suggest it would be wise to get into the highest ranked program that will accept you
then network and make the best of the campus scene
wherever that happens to be

i have a friend who is a professor at a "minor" hbcu
he always studied or worked at the best school that would take him
all the while networking and angling for a tenure track position at a hbcu
he went all over-
he spent time at six different colleges (some nice places, some not so friendly)
he moved his family three times
but now he is 52, a full professor, and has achieved his goal

good luck to you
college is an exciting time :salute:

Exactly these dumb fukks dont realize that HBCUs have big time connections with major companies. You got people who work at these companies that go back and recruit. Plus the companies go to these HBCUs when it comes to recruiting black people overall. Many times a whole graduating class will get hired in certain fields. Also it is best to go through HBCUs and black organizations to get jobs as a black person. I knew one brotha that was lookin for a job as an engineer a whole year and couldn't find one. This brotha goes to the NESB convention and gets a job in two weeks.

I can confirm this. I went to an HBCU but left after sophomore year because I didnt like the major my scholarship was in and I didnt want to rack up all this debt over a degree when I wasnt sure what I wanted to do. But I really treasure my experience there. Im sooo glad I went. I never really had major problems with financial aid besides long lines and shyt. You have to be on point when you handling business like that and I feel like HBCU's take the time to groom students for that where a white school would not give a fukk and if your game isnt tight then you just slip through the cracks.

I dont know what this crabs in a barrel shyt is that yall nikkas that never even went to an hbcu are talking about but I got nothing but love from my counselors ,deans, and instructors. They always looked out for me and would get in my ass when I was fukking up. Ive had lots of white teachers and they never went the extra mile like that in fact some of them tried to sabotage me because it made them mad to see a black person excel.

Are there any Black Engineering and Technology colleges? It seems most are geared towards liberal arts etc.

I was gonna say Jackson state has an official engineering program. They have plans to an biomedical engineering program there within the next few years. Also, I believe they get the most money because its relatively new.

After going to one, I can't in good conscience recommend anyone go. Feel like that shyt set me back 3 years and was only good for showing me that I didn't 'need' to go to one in the first place.

I went to Latech but Grambling is like 5mi. down the road.

I didn't miss anything, but that social experience is a bytch and I came from an all black high school.

The white people that I encountered will say some of the awkward, low key, gay or racist shyt ever. And then look at you like
:upsetfavre:...:ld:

It's hard to get through a PWI without wanting to kick somebody ass.

That 14k is a big factor too.
