This isn't always attributed to "race" though. Not all black people are familiar with Martin Lawrence and his movies...and not all nonwhite people are oblivious to it.

There's a white chick at my job with whom I was working with one day who claims that she LOVED Martin and that she and her family watched it regularly when it was airing on fox. Now just looking and talking with her, you would never guess that.

Meanwhile I've known some blacks who thought Martin was pure 'Amos n Andy' status.

Is that the norm? Absolutely not.

But superficialities such as this really take away from understanding people as individuals

Not just a black child, but a black child that's mine. My partner been with a chick who has had a baby since we were freshman in college which was 09. Still going strong and thinkin about marrying her, but Iunno if I could invest that much time in a son that ain't biologically mine.

Maybe you and he have different ideas and beliefs when wanting a relationship and raising children.
