Never quite understood why more black people didn't protect themselves during the lynching era. They might get you in the end but at least take a few of the scum down with you. Theres no way lynching would have that prevalent if they knew the black community was well armed and ready to go down fighting.Blacks should be the most pro gun demographic in this country.
Instead they prayed to God and hoped that the government will come to their rescue. We have the same thing now. The lynching party is the police and we are still marching peacefully and hoping the government does something.
There are a few examples of a small number of men defending themselves only for hundreds to be murdered the next day. That's a tough position to be in: save yourself and your friend today or see your neighborhood burn tomorrow.
The whole community should have armed themselves. Guns in America were very easy to get and unlike now, black people then were living in specific communities which made it easier to form a community and defend themselves.
Sounds good but I've always got a problem with this Monday morning QB stuff we do. These folks were experts at surviving in an environment we can't imagine. This woulda/coulda/shoulda is low key disrespectful. It's calling our ancestors stupid or weak and we know they weren't either.
Access to guns is extremely easy these days, and depending on the time period you had statutes prohibiting Blacks from owning weapons. As far as defending home turf, yeah it's an advantage but take a look at Iraq and such.
