Shula switched from a running offense that he had implemented for most of his career and gave more reigns to Marino. Made a great decision; no defenses were really prepared for that style and pace before and Marino made it that much tougher
Marino did this 30 years before all these NFL rule changes made it easy for quarterbacks and WRs.
When Marino hit 5084 yards in 1984, he was the only one to throw for that many yards...ever.
Since 2008, 5k yards has been done 7 times.
In fact, of the top THIRTY passing yard seasons of all-time 23 of them have all occurred in the last 11 years.
This is why I don't take this era seriously. And it's also why I take players like Brady and Peyton down a peg when talking about all-time greatness.

How many times did you actually see him play that year? Like back in the day lets say you wanted to watch any other team. Im guessing you could see him 3 times a year in the regular season tops right? (counting twice if they play the jets)
