Very rare ever tbh. Most successful hip-hop artists come as a movement with similar artists, powerful label or at least a co-sign. Everyone from Drake, Kanye, Jay, 50 had at least one of those.He made huge hits and that's also when labels started slowing down on putting out singles, so you had to buy the album. And everybody was selling then- even off as much as one single, a nikka could hit platinum. And Nelly was scoring like 3 and 4 big hits off one joint, so them sales just kept rackin' up.
It's especially wild how huge he was cause it's not like he had that 'setup' that most successful artists back then had to have. He didn't start off with mega-heavy promotion, or guest spots on other peoples' albums, or affiliated with anybody... dude just came out with a record people fell in love with and kept goin' from there. Very rare for that time.
the skinny: party and strip club anthems.
When Country Grammar dropped:w0w::w0w3:
If RT's equated to album sales Big Sean wouldnt be going triple styrofoam

Dmx was genuinely a good mc, raw energy, great show..and on Def Jam with Jay and Ja..Same answer to any question about how did X rapper sell so many albums: white people
Ya boy was a young'n back then so i don't remember anything, how tf did he sell so much?
Presently the dude is more irrelevant then just irrelevant, if that made sense
Getting less then a 100 Fav/RT on twitter
he never had any dope features either, like when you saw a Feat. Nelly you never got excited. What was it about him that got so many people to buy his shyt?
